Hall Rug/s

Pics of said rug. It's very hard to get an impression of a room with a basic little camera. I suspect the impression I want needs a fish eye lens, which I don't have, nor the camera to put one on. Still I have a good deal of fun with my little 'point and press' jobbie.

Feeling ill and slow this morning. Oops, this afternoon. Hopefully that will improve as the day goes on. I had a suprising amount of energy last night.

However, new position of sewing table was just fine for the recombobulation of skirt I was doing this morning. Note to self- cheap garments are not cheap if they don't fit and you never wear them. I have had a go at rescuing this one.

Queen of Hearts hairnet has the centre portion quilted and 3/8 of the border.

feeling inspired- in a boring way

looky here for piccies )

Spending large amounts of time in the lounge over the last week or so has had one benefit. I got inspired to switch the position of my two sewing tables. I just carried out this plan.  This has two benefits:
-the visual impact of the one stuck out into the room is MUCH less.  So the room feels less crowded. Spindly legged dark wood takes up much less visual space than blocky white paint. Though the heights and table top size are pretty much identical.
-Also then the main machine has light and air around it rather than working facing the wall. I rather felt like I had been sent to the corner to work there.

Tomorrow I'll have a bit of a sew to see how it feels. It sure LOOKS better.

I won!

My bid won the carpet auction! Yay. Actually, I paid a little less than the max bid I indicated. Good to know the auction house works this way. They don't just take all your money regardless. The other two items I have bought there took up my max bid.

I've brought it home and it looks great in the hall. Though it is amusing. It is so definitely hand woven, has a curve in it! A little odd but OK. I'll call it character. I now have three carpets end to end in the front hall * all the same colours but not totally matchy matchy. I LIKE. Photo tomorrow when I have daylight to play with.

BTW, TGIF!

*I do have rather an overabundance of hall here. There is still the second hall that I would like to put a rug in.

diversion- in the not amusing sense

I have spent most of my useful time today dealing with washing machines in one way or another. NOT what i had planned for today. Trying to make the old one work first, then figuring out which one I wanted to buy, then going and buying one. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow and the old one taken away. I will be sad to see the old one go. It was the first serious house thing I ever bought and has been my (mostly) faithful servant for 17yrs. We've been through a lot together- lived in lots of houses, and or laundries, dyed fabric, dyed the wall, washed countless loads of clothes and yardage.

I am joining the ranks of front loader owners. I am somewhat keen to give this a try but am trepidacious about it after using top loaders all my life. That wash cycle length is going to be seriously annoying. I shall have to keep reminding myself of the improvement in water efficiency. Also I am truly hoping that my clothes end up incrementally cleaner.

hmm, much of tomorrow will go to washing machine issues too I suppose. Don't know when it will be delivered and then it will need to be installed and tried out of course. Hopefully I will have chance to go see sjkasabi and co in the arvo. I MUST pack for the weeding trip.

Does anyone still have a top loader? want some washing powder?

freaky noises

there are noises coming from next door. Normal noises I suppose, vacuuming, odd clattering sounds, doors shutting and such but-  THIS is WIERD. My experience of living here is that no noise comes from that side neighbour. 2yrs or so of a very quiet elderly couple living there, then a year or so of them not living there- empty house. Now someone has bought the house and moved in. They have every right of course but it is so odd to hear noises from that direction. I keep thinking BURGLAR!  Haven't met him/her/them yet. They must have reasonably good taste though because they a) decided to live next to me  b) drive a red corolla- grin
